TO BE HELD MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2006 AT 10 A.M.

Shirley Thompson has been selected to be this
year's Honorary Grand Marshal. The committee felt that Shirley was a perfect choice due to
her desire to help others and the way her family has joined in her efforts. She
exemplifies all that is good and generous in many of our South Plainfield residents.
Her desire to help those who are in need is shared by her husband, John, and her
four children, John, Jerry, Candice and Heather. Her family along with her mother,
|
Stella Weaver, willing sacrifice their Christmas so others less fortunate can have
a joyous holiday. Each Christmas Shirley cooks full course dinners for the elderly,
disabled and needy. She cooks and bakes throughout the night getting little or no
sleep and the meals are delivered hot on Christmas Day with the help of her family and
friends. Last year the family delivered 98 freshly-made meals. delivered 36 bags of
food and provided Christmas gifts for 44 children.Shirley and her family
represent a perfect match for this year's parade theme "Families-South
Plainfield's Greatest Asset".
Shirley has contributed
freely of her time to make
South Plainfield
a better place to live and we salute her.
