   Farmers Market Coupons Available for Eligible Seniors

The South Plainfield Office on Aging will hold the 2009 Farmers’ Market Coupon Distribution Program on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 1:30pm at the Senior Center.  The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a program which provides coupons to seniors who meet the income eligibility guidelines to buy eligible foods at farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community supported agriculture programs.

Eligible Senior citizen, age 60 and older, who live alone need an income of $20,036 or lower; couples income limit is $26,955.00 or lower.  Participants will receive up to six $5 checks/vouchers that are redeemed for fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs grown by local farmers. The checks/vouchers are valid beginning June 1st through November 30th.

Bring your 2008 tax return, social security statement (if applicable), a utility bill, and personal ID to the Senior Center on Friday, June 19th and

file your application. To participate in the Seniors Farmers’ Market Program, you must apply in person, complete a two-page application and sign an agreement. The New Jersey Departments of Agriculture and Health and Senior Services administer the registration process. 

Middlesex County locations include Edison, Highland Park, Metuchen, Middlesex, Woodbridge and Rutgers Garden Farm
