TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM

The Borough offers a Dial-A-Ride transportation program to our seniors. This is an outreach program that provides free door-to-door transportation for essential services such as medical appointments, physical therapy, banking, hairdressers, etc.   We also provide a weekly shopping trip every Thursday morning at 9:00am.

We operate two 14 passenger mini buses with wheelchair access.  We provide transportation throughout South Plainfield and the surrounding towns of Edison, Plainfield, North Plainfield, Piscataway, Dunellen, Fanwood, and Scotch Plains.

Rides are provided weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 pm.  Rides should be  scheduled at least 48 hours to one week in advance.  Medical appointments are given schedule priority.

For more information or to make a reservation for a ride, please call the South Plainfield Office on Aging at 908-754-1047.

 MEALS ON WHEELS

A person age 60 or older who is homebound by reason of illness, incapacitating disability or is otherwise isolated and does not have the opportunity to consume at least one full meal per day is eligible for Meals on Wheels.

As part of the County Meal Program, we provide a nutritious meal to frail/disabled and homebound seniors on either a weekday or 7 day program.  We deliver a hot entree plus milk, juice, bread & butter and fruit.   We also offer a special "Ensure Seniors Are Nourished" program, which provides Ensure Plus to eligible seniors who are not able to partake in regular food diets due to certain health conditions.  A doctor's referral is required to qualify.  The cost is $2.75 per day, which helps defray the cost of the program.  To participate, please contact the Office on Aging at 754-1047.
