FRIENDS
OF THE WOODS SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
FOR SOUTH PLAINFIELDS
NATURE RESERVE
Friends
of the Woods needs help at the fall Trail Maintenance Day
in the Highland Avenue Woods Environmental
Education Reserve on
Sunday morning, September 22. People can
report to either the Sylvania
Place gate or the Carmine Avenue forest restoration site at 9 a.m. to sign in
and join a crew. Work will continue through the morning, so late
arrivals
are also welcome.
Volunteers
will work on a variety of projects, including trail building,
trail maintenance (pruning, blazing), control of invasive alien plants,
erosion control and litter cleanup. Gloves
and bags will be provided.
Volunteers are asked to bring any appropriate tools they can.
These include shovels, rakes,
hoes, pruners or loppers, saws, wheelbarrows or carts,
Friends of the
Woods holds two Trail Maintenance Days a year.
These keep the trails safe and enjoyable for the science classes,
scout troops and the public that use the Nature Reserve year-round.
They also offer an opportunity
to learn more about the Woods, and to meet other people who like
to be around trees and wildlife.
