Program Responsibilities

Some of the duties of the Assessor are as follows:
Assistance to taxpayers. While not a requirement or duty it has always been my policy to offer any type of assistance that may be necessary or helpful to the taxpayer or resident that will reflect favorably upon the Borough government as well as my office.
Assessment of all taxable property within the municipality.
Maintaining the exempt property list.
Inspecting and assessing of all new construction annually (Added/Omitted Assessments).
Reviewing and granting of all property tax deductions authorized by State statute.

  2. Surviving Spouse deduction ($250)
  3. Disabled Persons deduction ($250)
  4. 100% Disabled Veteran deduction (totally exempt from property taxes)
  5. Veteran’s deduction ($250)
  6. Veteran’s Widow deduction ($250)
  7. Chapter 441, P.L.1991 gives homeowner’s with homes over 20 years old a $15,000, 5 year exemption on new Added Assessment increases.
Responsible for all property deed changes for the tax system that involve ownership, address, bank codes, etc.
Maintain up-to-date property record cards to reflect sub-divisions, new ownership, added improvements and other changes made to the property.
Prepare and defend tax appeals filed with the County Tax Board.
Preparation of State Tax Court appeals for review by Appraiser.
Chapter 91 Income & Expense forms to all commercial and Industrial property owners for use in appeal defense.
Preparation of Department budget.
Review and process applications for exemption from taxation for non-profit, Educational, Religious and Charitable Organizations.
Resolve taxpayer complaints relating to property tax and assessment issues.
Supervise the operation of the Assessing office.
Sales Ratio study program.
