Call (908) 226-7630.   The Registrar of Vital Statistics processes birth, marriage and death certificates.   Birth Certificates   Since there are no hospitals located in South Plainfield there are few birth certificates processed in the borough, as all births are registered in the city or town where the birth occurred. Marriage Licenses   The New Jersey state rule is that a couple who want to apply for a marriage license must apply in the town where the bride resides. If the bride lives out of state, the couple applies in the town where the groom resides. If both the bride and groom live out of state, the couple apply in the town where the marriage is to occur.  Once the bride obtains the license from the town from where she lives, the couple can get married anywhere in the state of New Jersey.  South Plainfield has many couples who apply in town, but get married elsewhere. The marriage license is always on file in the town where the marriage takes place.   Death Certificates   Death certificates are processed mainly from South Plainfield’s two funeral homes, but occasionally funeral directors from out of town will process the death certificates in South Plainfield. Death certificates are always on file in the town where the death occurred.
