| The South Plainfield Rescue Squad was established in 1944 and is staffed by
volunteers except during 7am to 7pm when coverage is provided by Somerset County Medical
Center. South Plainfield Rescue Squad volunteers remain dedicated, helping to save
homeowners and businesses tens of thousands in emergency services each year. As of February 2007 we have approximately 24
members providing 48 hours per month coverage in the Borough of South Plainfield to
approximately 24,000 residents, in addition to hundreds of businesses. Last year in 2007 SPRS volunteers answered over 1800 emergency calls for help from homes and businesses throughout the Borough and mutual aid to surrounding communities. Our Rescue Squad volunteers are either EMT or First Responder certified. EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) involves approximately 150 classroom, practical and emergency room observations hours and usually takes about 3 months to complete. First Responder certification involves 50 hours of training and teaches the basics of First-Aid and CPR certification. All members must be trained in one of the above within one year of joining as well as CPR, Hazardous Materials and Blood borne Pathogens. Our volunteer squad relies heavily on donations from residents and businesses to pay for supplies, equipment, insurance and training programs for all our members. Please help support the South Plainfield Rescue Squad. |
