First Baptist Church Renews Adopt-A-Spot Contract

Pastor Jesse Nietzer of the First Baptist Church of South Plainfield has renewed the congregation’s Adopt-A-Spot agreement with the South Plainfield Clean Business Association for the coming year. A crew of about ten people will continue to remove litter from the roadsides near the church, one Sunday per month. The adopted spot covers the entire length of Church Street from Hamilton Boulevard to Veterans Park, and Hamilton Boulevard from the Church to the dead end at the Bound Brook.

This Adopt-A-Spot is part of a network of adoptions in South Plainfield’s downtown and civic center. CBA President Joe Diegnan notes that if many groups each take responsibility for a small piece of the Borough, the town stays a clean, attractive place to live and work with minimal effort by each organization. The First Baptist Church is part of the bedrock of South Plainfield history. Originally founded in 1792, it moved to 201 Hamilton Boulevard after fire destroyed the building on New Market Avenue. Pastor Nietzer is bringing the congregation more actively into the larger community. In addition to this Adopt-A-Spot, congregation members participated in last month’s Volunteer Litter Cleanup Week, working on the Sampton Avenue vacant lots.

The CBA is looking for more adopters for roadsides and open space locations. The length of Metuchen Road from Harmich Road to the Edison border is available for adoption.
