The (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact our community and educates them in basic disaster response skills. Some of these skills are, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations. This allows the professional responders to focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, responding to, and recovering from, disasters is established and enhanced. CERT cans also assist in non-disaster roles as well. Some of these rolesinclude volunteering for the community. CERT can help with non-emergency projects such as, Identifying and aiding neighbors and coworkers who might need assistance during an emergency or disaster. Distributing preparedness materials and doing preparedness demonstrations. Staffing first aid booths and preparedness displays at health fairs, county fairs, Graduations, Parades/Fireworks, assisting with traffic and crowd management at these large community events and other special events. The South Plainfield CERT team also has several Hamm Radio Operators who are members of the South Plainfield Amateur Radio Club&Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service. (SPARC and RACES).
