This is not a change in the program. The rules listed in our Guide to Recycling brochures have always stated that plastic bags are not allowed. However, the companies that have picked up our recyclables at the curb have not enforced this.
Due to changes in world geopolitcal and economic conditions, it is no long possible to market recyclables that include prohibited materials like plastic bags.
We urge residents to review the acceptable materials listed on the Recycling Program page, and to include only these in the blue bins.
